Currency
The official currency in Curaçao is the Antilles guilder (ANG), which is linked to the American dollar exchange rate. The currency of €1, – is approximately ANG 2,25 (2010). American dollars are widely accepted in most tourist places.
Banks can be found all over the island. Most banks open at 08.00 am and close at 04.00 pm. Some banks close for lunch between 12.00 am till 02.00 pm.
Most credit cards (Visa, EuroCard/Master Card, Diners Club & American Express) are accepeted. Tourists can use theire pincards as long as the card holds the logo Cirrus of Maestro.
Internet/telephone
Telephone and internet connections are fairly expensive on Curaçao. There are a number of terraces, cafe’s (Wilhelmina café, Cinco, Ay Caramba, De Tropen) who offer free wireless internet facilities while you enjoy your beverage. Be aware that the internet connection is not as fast as you might be used to.
Electricity
The regular voltage in Curaçao is 110Volt, 60Hz. Most appliances you bring with you (telephone adapter, laptop etc.) will be usable
The design of the plugs might be a different shape so you will need an adapter. However, one will be available in our accommodation.
Water
In early days the inhabitants were reliant on rainwater to provide their drinking water. But there was never enough rainwater in Curaçao so the native Indians made wells in the soft soil along the south coast. Later on the Spanish and Dutch found drinking water nearby Schottegat and transported the water to Punda.
As the population grew so did the need for fresh drinking water. Around 1890 the first windmills were transported from the United States to irrigate the land. In 1928 the first purification installation was built which made sea water into drinking water.

The quality of the water is excellent. The water is soft, contains no chloor and has low calcium levels. The water has no unnatural taste or smell. The Perfect drinking water!!
Medical
To visit Curaçao Vaccinationss are not necessary. You can find all the necessary medication to relieve you of any problems at the Botica’s (pharmacy).
Dutch physicians with a Dutch training are to be found on the island. Should you visit a doctor you are expected to pay cash. The tariffs are lower than in the Netherlands. If you have a travel or medical insurance you can also declare your expenses through your insurance company.
Across the island you will find numerous Botica’s. These have a drugstore and a pharmacy. At night time there is always a Botica open in the neighborhood.
The St. Elizabeth Hospital in Otrabanda is equipped with all the latest equipment and well trained medical staff. For diving accidents the Hospital has a decompression tank.
In your accommodation you will find an information map with all the addresses of physicians, dentists and the nearest Botica.
